Verified caller IDs allow you to use phone numbers you already own (like your mobile or office number) as your caller ID when making calls through Sonafone. This guide explains how verification works and why it's beneficial.
What are Verified Caller IDs?
Verified caller IDs are phone numbers you own that you've verified with Sonafone. Once verified, you can use these numbers as your caller ID, making your calls appear to come from numbers recipients recognize.
Benefits of Verification
- Higher answer rates: Recipients are more likely to answer calls from recognized numbers
- Trust building: Using your own number builds trust with recipients
- Consistency: Recipients see the same number they know
- Compliance: Some regions require verified numbers for certain call types
- Better delivery: Verified numbers often have better call delivery rates
Verified caller IDs significantly improve call success rates compared to unverified numbers.
Why Verify Your Number?
Improved Call Success
Calls from verified numbers are more likely to:
- Connect successfully
- Be answered by recipients
- Avoid spam filters
- Build trust with recipients
Regulatory Compliance
Some regions and use cases require verified numbers:
- Business calls: Many jurisdictions require verified numbers
- Marketing calls: Compliance with telemarketing regulations
- International calls: Some countries require verification
- High-volume calling: Verification may be required for volume
Always ensure you comply with local regulations when making calls, especially for marketing or business purposes.
Adding a Number for Verification
To start the verification process:
- Go to the Numbers page
- Click the Verified Caller IDs tab
- Click Verify Caller ID or Add Number
- Enter the phone number you want to verify
- Add a friendly name (optional, for your reference)
- Click Start Verification
You can only verify numbers you own or have authority to use. You'll need to prove ownership during verification.
Verification Process
The verification process typically involves:
Step 1: Number Entry
Enter the phone number you want to verify, including the country code (e.g., +1 555 123 4567).
Step 2: Verification Method
Choose how to verify:
- Phone call: Receive an automated call with a verification code
- SMS: Receive a text message with a verification code
- Other methods: Additional methods may be available depending on the number type
Step 3: Enter Verification Code
Enter the code you received to complete verification.
Step 4: Verification Complete
Once verified, the number will appear in your verified caller IDs list and can be used immediately.
Verification is usually completed within minutes. Some numbers may require additional verification steps.
Using Verified Caller IDs
Once verified, using your number is simple:
- Go to the Dialer
- Enter the number you want to call
- Click the Caller ID dropdown
- Select your verified number from the list
- Make your call
The recipient will see your verified number on their caller ID.
Verification Status
Your verified numbers show their status:
- VERIFIED: Number is verified and ready to use
- PENDING: Verification is in progress
- FAILED: Verification failed (may need to retry)
Only numbers with "VERIFIED" status can be used as caller ID. Pending numbers cannot be used until verification is complete.
Managing Verified Numbers
Viewing Verified Numbers
All your verified numbers are listed on the Numbers page under the Verified Caller IDs tab:
- Friendly name: The name you assigned (or "Unnamed")
- Phone number: The verified number
- Status: Current verification status
- Actions: Options to remove the number
Removing Verified Numbers
To remove a verified number:
- Go to the Numbers page
- Click the Verified Caller IDs tab
- Find the number you want to remove
- Click the Remove or Delete button
- Confirm the removal
Removing a verified number doesn't affect the actual phone number—it just removes it from your Sonafone account.
Verification Requirements
To verify a number, you typically need:
- Ownership: You must own or have authority to use the number
- Access: Ability to receive calls or SMS at that number
- Valid number: The number must be active and working
- Country code: Number must include proper country code
Number Types That Can Be Verified
- Mobile numbers: Personal or business mobile phones
- Landline numbers: Office or home landlines
- VoIP numbers: Some VoIP numbers can be verified
- Virtual numbers: Numbers from other providers (if you own them)
Not all number types can be verified. If verification fails, the number type may not be supported.
