Virtual phone numbers require a monthly subscription to keep them active. This guide explains how subscriptions work, when they renew, and how to manage them.

How Subscriptions Work

When you purchase a virtual number:

  • Monthly fee: Charged each month to keep the number active
  • Automatic renewal: Subscription renews automatically
  • Billing cycle: Same date each month
  • Payment method: Uses your default payment method

Subscriptions are charged monthly. The number remains active as long as you maintain the subscription.

Subscription Costs

Monthly Fees

Subscription costs vary by:

  • Country: Different countries have different prices
  • Number type: Toll-free numbers cost more than local
  • Features: Some numbers may have additional features
  • Market rates: Prices based on availability and demand

Additional Charges

In addition to monthly fees:

  • Call charges: Per-minute costs for calls (separate)
  • Setup fees: One-time fees may apply (if any)
  • Other services: Additional features may have costs

The monthly subscription covers the number itself. Call charges are separate and based on usage.

Viewing Your Subscriptions

On the Numbers Page

You can see all your subscriptions:

  • Active numbers: Currently subscribed numbers
  • Monthly cost: Subscription fee for each
  • Renewal date: When next payment is due
  • Status: Active, cancelled, or pending

On the Billing Page

Subscription information also appears:

  • Upcoming payments: Subscriptions due soon
  • Recent charges: Past subscription payments
  • Payment reminders: Alerts for upcoming renewals

Renewal Dates

Billing Cycle

  • Monthly renewal: Same date each month
  • Based on purchase: Renewal date matches purchase date
  • Automatic: No action required for renewal

Payment Timing

  • Charged on renewal date: Payment processed automatically
  • Uses default payment: Your saved payment method
  • Balance deduction: If using account balance (if supported)

Ensure your payment method is valid on renewal dates. Failed payments may result in number release.

Payment Reminders

Sonafone notifies you about upcoming payments:

Reminder Timing

  • 7 days before: Early reminder
  • 3 days before: Closer reminder
  • 1 day before: Final reminder
  • On renewal date: Payment confirmation

Reminder Methods

  • In-app notifications: Alerts in Sonafone interface
  • Email notifications: Email reminders (if configured)
  • Billing page: Visible on your billing dashboard

Payment reminders help ensure you don't miss renewals and lose your numbers.

Cancelling Subscriptions

How to Cancel

To cancel a number subscription:

  1. Go to the Numbers page
  2. Find the number you want to cancel
  3. Click Cancel or Release
  4. Confirm the cancellation
  5. Number will be released at end of billing period

Cancellation Timing

  • End of period: Number released at end of current billing cycle
  • No immediate release: You keep the number until period ends
  • No refunds: Partial month refunds typically not available
  • Permanent: Cannot recover released numbers

Cancelling a subscription is permanent. The number will be released and cannot be recovered.

Failed Payments

What Happens

If a subscription payment fails:

  • Notification: You'll be notified of the failure
  • Retry attempts: System may retry payment
  • Grace period: Short period to update payment method
  • Number release: Number may be released if payment fails

Resolving Failed Payments

  1. Update payment method: Add a valid payment method
  2. Ensure funds: Check payment method has sufficient funds
  3. Contact support: If you need assistance
  4. Manual payment: May be able to pay manually if needed

Managing Multiple Subscriptions

If you have multiple numbers:

  • Track renewals: Keep track of different renewal dates

  • Review regularly: Periodically review which numbers you need

Best Practices

  1. Monitor renewals: Keep track of upcoming payment dates
